Whole Lotta Red is such a great album. Such a high energy album. Very artistic album. A well needed album for the time. Hip-Hop quality, especially for albums, has been in a lull. Lots of low quality products. Not saying they’re all bad, it’s just that a lot of Hip-hop songs and definitely albums aren’t very stimulating. Hip-hop needed that punk energy(it’s not a punk sound though). He had punk influence before, but he went all the way for it this time. Hip-Hop was due for something refreshing. It’s a fuck it, Ima do me type of album. When he could’ve easily dropped the easy listening Die lit sound. That was leaked online constantly, with great feedback. Everyone expected a classic for a Die Lit part 2. Instead he challenged his fans. He basically pulled a Yeezus On Sight. Very experimental album. Just confused the fanbase and other listeners that were expecting something easy like Die Lit. Like you need an ear for this type of music, you won’t get it if you don’t. Reason why it was welcomed to the most polarizing views for an album in a while. Even I was heavily critical of this album the first day. That’s what great art can do. Polarizing, you either hate it or love it.
A Hip-Hop album hasn’t done what this album has done for me in a while. Gave you that feel. That sound is amazing. That high energy sound. This is one of my heavily used soundtracks when I’m in that mood. Fashionable mood or something like that, or art in general. I really like the concept of the album. The visual he provided during the rollout, the punk vampire aesthetic. How it corresponded with Matthew Williams’ Givenchy debut. It just made a lot of sense, power duo. You just feel the energy. Really visceral and raw. Also a rager album. I would love to moshpit to this album. So many songs to do that to. It’s really my soundtrack, the energy I need when I’m in that world. My favorite Playboi Carti album. Best album in a while.
