Marc Jacobs for about the past two years has been on a beautiful run. With their main fashion collections. Also they’re making a great name for themselves on the streets with their sub label Heaven. The taste level is just on the highest of levels. Every time I see those collections, they affect me very deeply, some of the most satisfying pieces. It’s all just art to me.
First, Marc Jacobs Fall 2021 collection. They just completely changed their design language. Jumped into an absolutely different genre of garments. A completely different identity. So I wonder how they got from wherever they were, into this chaotic form of expression. Their Fall 2020 collection had some nice things on there, it was cool. Then in a year span, it’s like “What The F***,” how’d we get here? What they did with oversizing was art, it was so complementary with how they draped and layered their pieces. With absolutely some of the best shapes and silhouettes. Everything they did was so satisfying.
This performance literally brought the name Marc Jacobs back in a strong way. Being labeled with Marc Jacobs didn’t hold much weight before, but the way it’s monogrammed beautifully over the beautifully shaped silhouettes, it holds a lot of weight now. I need a lot of those monogrammed pieces, they’re on my grail list. It has such a heavy Hip-Hop essence in the pieces. Like the styling of the collection was so fly. Going off the top of my head, I believe that the Fall 2021 collection was my favorite of the year.
I really liked what they did with those neoprene outfits. Those were done so tastefully. It was a great use of colors. I really liked that brown and gray, and it was nicely contrasted. That hunchback silhouette was just so sick to me.
You could tell they were definitely inspired by Rick Owens, specifically the Gethsemane collection. They really brought an intergalactic essence to Marc Jacobs. Where that oversizeness worked perfectly. Also there was this section of the collection where everything is obtusely and asymmetrically layered. With accessories that exudes this extraterrestrial feel.
Then lastly, they had this shimmery iridescent shiny circle dress. Alone it’s nice, but the high level styling just made it a staple. It just again shows how all the aspects of this collection are so complementary to each other.
This was an amazing artistic performance. I love the risk of this collection. From my perspective, it’s nothing the company has done before. They didn’t test the waters, they just invested fully into a completely different world. This was an inspiring show. I love everything about it.
Now let’s get into the Heaven collection. Heaven is Marc Jacobs’ sub label. That is more accessible, you could say their streetwear collection. It’s still artfully and tastefully done. This style has been one of the biggest trends, and has grown with this new subculture I’ve been seeing popular with women in the NY scene. Revamping of I guess the Y2K era. Also has been deemed “Weird Girl Aesthetic” by The CUT. Whatever you label it, I love it, I don’t think it’s weird at all. They have been making amazing “Baby Tees” that are a household name now. These unisex cropped tees with satisfying colors and graphics, especially those ringer tees. They have these beautiful knits and mesh tops, I need all of them. Also what I need is their printed denim. They have been doing nice things with skirts. Also, one of Heaven’s collection’s main and best aspects are the prints and graphics. The whole line is just so fun and playful, they would bring a strong vibrancy to anyone’s closet. They have a lot of fun accessories. So many aspects are just done to a very high level.
A bug has bitten Marc Jacobs’ company. They just have been exuding greatness on all levels recently in the past two years. There has been a strong emphasis on tastefulness and craft. Also creating a strong staple identity, making a big impact on culture.
