Jil Sander is one of the most tastiest designers of all-time. It sounded funny how odd that sounded. But really, Jil Sander is one of the leaders of taste for me. Like it’s insane how much tastefulness and satisfyingness she can implement in her subtleties. Her aspect of subtlety is so intense. Like Queen of Simple, but it evokes so much beauty. I love what she does. Every time I experience one of her collections, I’m deeply affected, typically in awe. I need a closet dedicated to Jil Sander. She is one of the greatest designers of all-time.
“rekindling the relationship between professionalism and chic.”- Jil. Creating a work uniform that was cosmopolitan and cool instead of secretarial pool dowdy was what enabled her to elevate her company from its modest beginnings in the fashion hinterland of Hamburg, Germany, to a label favored by some of the world’s most powerful women. In seeing that excerpt, you understand the intentions for the simpleness and subtleties, and her putting an intense emphasis on tastefulness through the lens of being simple and subtle. You see the decades of work, especially through her recent collections. It seems so effortless her ability to be that simply tasteful. It evokes this magic about how she’s able to create something so simple, but evoke that much feeling, so much subtle beauty. If I’m coming off repetitive, I feel it can’t be said enough how much beauty she can convey through being that simple, like I’m really amazed.
She is a master of silhouettes. Beautiful clean cuts, amazing tailoring. Also a master of proportion. An amazing sense of chic, because there is a strong sense of elegance in her garments. Then she knows how to complement it with again, the aspect of high level taste, in her color palettes.
She is all-around masterful in her craft. One of the greatest. I wanted to go over some of her recent collections, but after checking, there were a lot of collections, and a lot of success, in terms of quality, within a lot of them. So I’m gonna limit myself to three notable collections for me…It was tough choices.
Jil Sander FALL 2022 RTW
I absolutely love this collection. In this collection, I got a subtle sense of bravado and boldness. It was a “top” heavy collection, those suit jackets were so elegantly crafted. I absolutely loved those hourglass cropped suits. The skirts fit nicely slightly under it. The whole collection had this elegant subtle form fitting essence to it, very modest. There was an amazing use of wool, it was so nicely shaggy, an amazing scruff to it. And the whole collection was complemented so nicely with that beautiful color palette. Like there were some nice tropical pastel colors in there. That piña colada yellow throughout the show was deliciously tasteful, I really loved it. Also a nice guac green. Those two colors paired so nicely in this set. That bag is beautifully calm, I really like it.
I liked the bowtie aspect. The bow tie handbag was nice, but I really liked the bow tie on the top of the jacket and as a belt.
There was a nice gold button jacket, I loved the closing of it, an amazing silhouette. I really loved how it matched with those leather gloves. The gloves throughout the show had an amazing color selection. Gave me Carol(2015) vibes. This was a collection made for Carol honestly.
Also want this cool shaggy top. It’s really cool. I may want one.
An amazing collection.
Jil Sander FALL 2021 MENSWEAR
Now this was a phenomenal collection. It’s really a notable one for me. Lucie Meier transcended many levels of elegance. This was the collection that introduced me to the Jil Sander brand. I just remember the feeling, it was a strong one, because I was deeply moved by this collection. Going through the collection I was just in awe, I couldn’t understand how someone could evoke so much beauty, passion, and tastefulness through this much simplicity. Jil Sander’s collections are amongst the top in subtle beauty. Those elongated leather jackets. They were shaped so beautifully, amazing straight cut silhouettes. And they were complemented so nicely by these high rubber boots. Those two aspects were a match made for each other. Then the color palette, the color chosen to pair with each other were out of this world, such a tasteful color palette. Then there was a really good collection of knitwear. It looks so comfy, and paired nicely sometimes with these necktie scarves. Also there was a really nice assortment of accessories and jewelry. I love this collection, it was really masterful to me. I need a couple of these sets in my closet. Amazing job.
Jil Sander RESORT 2023
When I see this collection, I feel a strong sense of calmness & softness, also a strong sense of freeness, very breatheful, and there was so much fluidity. This collection held the aspects of water, no bounds, it’s free enough to take shape of whatever. That’s why I gravitated to this collection. It had a lot of euphoric essence to it. It had a nice bright vibrancy to it, I felt an essence of playfulness. I believe there was a strong feel of ease when they were crafting this, and they evoked these feelings perfectly.
The main aspect I’m getting from the silhouettes was this flow. There was a gentleness to the silhouettes. They really focused on making sure the garments draped down beautifully, like a waterfall, there was a lot of elongation in them. Yes simple, but there was also a lot of precision in the tops and suit jackets. The color palette as always is so tasteful, a strong emphasis was felt in picking a beautiful palette. Also the silhouettes of those slim rectangular pointy boots are amazing, it compliments the garments well. Overall there was a strong sense of simpleness paired together that created a very strong collection, tastefully beautiful.
