Glenn Martens has been taking the Diesel name to new heights. Especially with these recent beautiful culture shifting collections. I just have the utmost respect for the constant display of high standard construction. They are a strong force within fashion and culture. A strong fight and push for the top spot. So let’s see this recent FW ‘23 collection to see if they’re taking another step forward towards pushing to the top:
With the first look off the bat, we’re right back in the metro-sexual look, a word and era that was very much the 2000’s, a tastefully done Y2k iteration. Really liked that collarless treated leather jacket, I always love their rusty-like treated garments. Diesel’s denim construction is always so overwhelmingly satisfying. Successful first look, a great opener for the collection. There’s so many looks with amazing cuts, I always love their proportions. Great silhouettes as well, that really brings out that Diesel sex appeal. They also always bring great texture to their garments. The fabrics and material usage is insane, a lot of creativity going into that. A lot of their treated fabrics are so amazing, and it’s really brought out and accentuated by some ruggedly nice graphic designs. The way they continue to play with the denim is ridiculous, just a great display of denim construction. Especially with this sun faded denim set, it was gorgeous. It has this very satisfying staining, producing such beautiful colors.
Then here’s where it was getting ridiculous. They were just having absolute fun with these designs, just seeing how far they can take this ethereal beauty.
These printed graphic looks are getting insane. Love the glossiness of some of them. Amazing fun prints.
I was loving what they were doing with these black leather looks, very nicely fitting. Great use of leather.
Then to get into the household Diesel bags, I’m a big fan of the 1DR bag, updating the bag with some nice looks, great collection of bags.
Also a high standard is set with the constantly great silhouettes and fit of the looks. Just greatness look after look. High volume greatness, have a lot of respect for this collection and the brands output as of recent. So much fun and freeness being displayed. 200,000 boxes of condoms, you definitely got to be out of your mind, but it illustrates that he’s really going for it, while having fun. You see the Jean Paul Gaultier sex-inspired themes embedded in his collections, and it’s done very well. I know for a fact I’m going to have a potent Diesel collection, or at least the wishlist will be long. These collections are just a masterful crafting of garments. Diesel for me is currently top 5. They are a strong force within fashion and culture. With this collection is another strong fight and push for the top spot. They are checking off all the boxes. I know I can be a bit repetitive, but it’s because I can’t talk about enough, the constant level of greatness throughout this collection, look after look. There was this through-line throughout this whole collection of beautiful Glenn Martens x Diesel beauty. “Martens said rightly that he believes his Diesel design language is becoming ever more distinctly identifiable.” The diesel look is definitely one I want to incorporate into my style. Amazing job by Glenn Martens and the team at Diesel, very tasteful collection. I’m loving the production coming out of there.
